It recently occurred to me how few people actually know how BBerryPi started and why.

Bet You Didn’t know this...

It all started one day when I got bored. Literally, I got bored. I had a few things laying around that I didn’t really use, like an old iPod, some nice headphones, a few gift cards, and some other stuff that was just collecting dust. I decided, what the heck, my tweeps would like some free stuff. Thats why the site was originally just a give away site and I had my twitter contest going. Then, I came into some free hosting. (Which turned out to be the worst thing ever, haha.) And decided I would open a forum for BlackBerry devices, since I had recently bought my first one. I found some free forum software, set it all up, and really didn’t use it for anything. It was more of just a personal project for me to get used to everything and just to have something to do. I eventually moved the contest to the forums and everything. So there was maybe a total of 5 members and like, 10 posts total. Soon after all this happened, I started to think that I could actually turn this into something. Nothing huge, but something more than it was. I then searched for another Administrator to help me run things and, basically, teach me the things I needed to know. Thats when Jason became the guy who more or less ran the site. (And still does! Haha!) We then decided that we would bite the bullet and purchase vBulletin. There was no going back then. Or so I thought. After about a month of having vBulletin and having only having about 20 members total, I said forget it. Managed to get a refund for my license of vB and gave up. But then I got bored again. Bought vB, and went at it again. I’m not going to lie though, this time, things were just slapped together and whatnot and not really done correctly. So yet again, we completely close the site down. But this time, with a purpose. More than just quitting. We revamped everything. For about 2 months, we worked at everything. Changed a few rules, created new boards, bought new software, came up with new ideas for Premium, and so much more. When we reopened on the 31st of December ’09, things were much better. We were actually prepared for the launch. A day later, we became affiliated with The DarkBB, and they have been a great help to getting our site off the ground.

So, thats the story of how BBerryPi was born, and some of the things we’ve endeared.
